Do You Want Better Health?
So many of us today have health problems and I am one. Fortunately, my problems are really small compared to what others go through and here’s the thing…..a lot of what I’m dealing with is related to diet. I have worked very hard to do a total overhaul of my eating habits and believe me, when you suffer from anxiety this can be a challenge seemingly unsurmountable! Using a food diary helped me see not only what I was eating, but how much. You can really convince yourself of anything, but why does it seem so much easier to accept negative stuff? Media showing subliminal ads for food. Bigger is better, eat like a horse because everyone you know is doing it so why not. I’m sorry but this way of thinking is on the wrong path! Add to that all the over salted, over sugared and overly fat, prepared, pre-frozen and pre-cooked foods out there and what’s a busy person to do. I’m fortunate enough to not have a hugely stressful lifestyle and good thing, as I don’t know how I would manage avoiding weighing hundreds of pounds.
All the additives in prepared foods are causing serious health problems in this country. Don’t take my word for it. Do your own research. I’m not making anything up here. Also a problem is air, soil and water pollution. You may hear constant suggestions that organic is better but seriously folks, think about this. How can anything be pollution and pesticide free? Rain falls through heavily soiled air onto plants, into the soil, and the plants absorb it. It doesn’t matter that pesticides were not used. They are already in the soil, put there by dirty rain. Unless you have your own greenhouse and grow hydroponics, there isn’t much that can be done to avoid the toxins in your food. Organics and supplements are a good start anyway. This may surprise some of you but cooking from scratch does not have to be time consuming, unless you eat gourmet style every day! There’s something very calming about working with food. While washing, chopping and cooking I use the time to think about stuff……anything that isn’t negative (don’t put that energy into your food!). And the taste! Once you get used to no additives, preservatives or excessive sodium, you won’t know how you put that awful stuff into your mouth in the first place.
In addition to organics, supplements and no prepared foods, I also use alternative health methods and not just self hypnosis (which has helped me immensely, by the way). Recently I had a physical checkup at my HMO. I got a new doctor…..some 12 year old they just handed a diploma. This young woman had so obviously been brainwashed by the medical establishment that I felt sorry for her! When I told her I used alternatives, she told me I could die. WHAAAAT?? Apparently she missed the class on bedside manner…..oh, wait……they don’t teach that in med school!! The only reason I put up with her is that alternatives, as helpful as they can be, can’t cure everything (like cancer or if you need surgery, like for appendicitis). What they can do is ease the side effects and even stop them, and also speed healing. Why would you not want that?
I suffer from chronic lower back pain, mostly due to sitting in front of my computer too long. I help keep it under control, not with pain killers or NSAIDS (not good over the long haul), but with acupuncture. Best thing I ever did for myself. But, you say…..the needles…ugh….arrgh…..hurt! Don’t they? Ok, listen carefully……noooooooo! There might be a little pinch once in a few, but most of the time they do not hurt. Remember, you tend to equate them with the kind you get injections with. There is no comparison…..injection needles have to be thick enough for liquid to pass through, making them hurt. And anyway, it’s the fluid going in that hurts, not so much the needle. Acupuncture needles are no thicker than a hair and when they are placed in certain areas of the body, it’s amazing what results come. Pain can be reduced if not eliminated and at the end of a session, you can feel remarkably relaxed. I’ve been getting this treatment for quite a while and without it, I would probably have stomach problems from the pills I would have to take.
There is a lot of information out there about acupuncture and Chinese Medicine (I use that too) but if you want an overview of how it works or just want to satisfy your curiosity, there’s a neat site that gives all kinds of info. Take a look at www.shpigelacupuncture.com. Alex Shpigel is a friend and a fine healer. This may not be much help to you if you don’t live in San Diego, unless you want to fly here on a vacation and throw in a little treatment while here. Really, the site is informative and hopefully, you will be more comfortable with the concept.
I certainly went on a rant today. You might be able to tell that health issues are big with me. I hope you don’t mind but I’m sure to do this again!
